GridJunction UPS Add-in Coming Soon

image Alexander Kent (of Vista Caller-ID WHS Add-in fame) is about to release another WHS Add-in called "GridJunction". GridJunction is a battery backup/UPS management add-in that integrates into the WHS console and issues power alerts and safely shuts-down the WHS (if desired) when the battery level hits a preset threshold.

This add-in will monitor the state of any UPS connected via either USB (for use on the HP EX470 for example) or even any serial port (for homebuild WHS and or legacy UPS's). If the WHS switches to battery power (lead unplugged, no power, etc) it will use the WHS Notification system to broadcast a network wide message  (e.g. “Attention your Home Server is running on Battery Power. Time Remaining 34 minutes”). The color changes from yellow to red depending of the percent of battery power remaining.  When a red notification is sent, you can optionally tell GridJunction to shut fown the WHS. In this case the broadcast says “Your Home Server battery is low and is safely shutting down”. The shutdown level can be set in the WHS Console as shown here:

The add-in that its extremely lightweight and it is running as a Windows Service. Later plans call on re-using the service technology for an updated Vista Caller-ID WHS Add-in. Look for a public beta coming soon!

Fin. Why not comment on what you've just read or even Digg It!
