If you have Windows Home Server running, but weren’t lucky enough to get in on the private beta for PP1 (Power Pack 1), then today is your lucky day. Power Pack 1 Public Beta is now shipping!
What’s new? Here is the “short list”:
- The data corruption issue described Knowledge Base article #946676 has been addressed!
- The constant “Balancing Storage” has been fixed.
- Overall performance improvements.
- Connector support for Windows Vista x64.
- A new feature is added to enable the user to backup and restore user-specified shared folders to external hard drives: Windows Home Server Data Backup.
- While adding a hard drive to the Windows Home Server, the user is now presented with an option to use the hard drive for backing up the home server.
- You can now specify what features a remote user can have access to.
Remember that this is still a beta product (which means install at your own risk), but to get yours head on over to http://connect.microsoft.com/WindowsHomeServer
A complete list of bug fixes/enhancements is available on Connect as well.

I just installed the package. I did notice that it changed my custom images for remote access.
I ran into a problem. I get an error saying, "Windows Media Connect Service not running".
I know this is because I disabled and REMOVED it from the registry when I followed the tutorial on using WPM11 instead. Now with this latest update I get the error. How can I reinstall Windows Media Connect ?
I tried googling it, found 1 version but that didn't work. There is a C:\Program Files \Media Connect folder, but when I run WMCCFG.exe file it runs but I get a balloon says " Service is unavailable"
Any help ?
Thanks for the heads up... downloading now... cant wait ;)
Installing now!
Now, is it just me, or does this sound a lot more like "service pack" (fix bug), rather than a "Power Pack" (add cool new features).
@James - originally it was meant to be a just a Power Pack (i.e. new features) but then it was delayed so that it could include the data corruption fix (just one release). So to be accurate, I guess you could call it a Service/Power Pack or SPP1.
Downloaded Sower Pack 1? Pervice Pack 1? Either way, downloaded, fairly easy install, etc. Can't wait to start loading drives and LOVE that they included the ability to back up the server on a drive connected to the server. Nice work there.
