Mommy, Why is my Home Server on Fire?

image

This reference is a bit dated, but I wanted to point out Rafael Rivera’s humorous take on upgrading his WHS to PP1 (although I’m sure that he didn’t find it funny at the time). Notice the title and sub-title in the image above.

Personally, I haven’t had these issues on my WHS, but then again I’ve done both the 2GB memory upgrade (a MUST for any EX470 MediaSmart Server owner) and the processor upgrade.

I also have NOT installed McAffe.

Fin. Why not comment on what you've just read or even Digg It!

At the same time I installed all this stuff, I started getting error related to CPU temperature and cooling fan speeds. I have an EX470. I talked with HP Support and they sent me an add-in to address the issue, but I always need to ignore the issue.

I haven't heard many others mention the issue so was wondering if anyone else had seen this issue. I ask because I don't think they really fixed it if I am "ignoring" issues.

HP sent the following on 7/29/08:

Dear HP Customer,

The HP MediaSmart Server is designed with multiple hardware probes and sensors. One of the sensors is redundant and we have learned that this sensor is showing false temperature readings.

As a result, the Server notified you of false hardware alerts. We apologize for the inconvenience.

The attached software patch disables the notification of the redundant sensor and ensures that you will not receive false hardware alerts in the future. The key temperature reading for your Mediasmart Server is the CPU reading. This sensor is the focus of the temperature control design and is functioning properly, so you can be assured that your HP MediaSmart Server is operating as designed.

Please accept our apologies.

have you ever seen anything relating to an "LED" partial failure; seems I need to replace the one in my 0 drive position as only the red will illuminate

Hello, I love the design of EX470 too good and too small
Only coercion which I doubt, I would like a home server that can act as NAS media server connected to a TV card, only seen the motherboard est'il can change it by a mini ITX motherboard? or is there a box resembling a map taking MICRO ATX?
