As you can seem there are big changes here at Home Server Hacks, both visually and editorially. Here is a scren shot of the new look:
Editorially
Editorially I am doing many, many do-it-yourself hardware reviews with complete how-to instructions and photos. It started a year ago with the Shuttle KPC $300 DIY Windows Home Server and continued this year with the Eee Home Server Box. But I'm not stopping there. In the weeks and months to come, you will see DIY WHS systems based on the low power Intel Atom chipset (I'm fixated on low power builds for the moment), power systems with dual-core power and multi terabyte storage monsters!
Visually
Visually, it's pretty obvious. I've re-designed the system style sheet. Here are some of the highlights:
Wider. Blog posts are wider, not only allowing articles to be not as long (reduces scrolling), but I can also insert wider images where appropriate. Don't worry, the blog width still fits on newer netbook computers (I've tested it out on my HP Mini 1000).
Search. New search box is not hidden in the sidebar. This allows you to search Home Server Hacks past articles. For example, you know that there was an article on the VIA A2000 computer, but you don't see the link. Enter A2000 and click Search. Viola! Your article is served.
New Menu. Sure it's a little hard to read; everything is lowercase, the descenders are cut off and there isn't a lot of contrast, but it sure looks cool! :)
Summary. Before when I had a really long post, you had to scroll through the whole thing to get to the next post. Now I have the ability to have just a summary on the main page. You can read the entire article by clicking on the title or on the green arrow. It reduces clutter on the home page.
Inline Posts. You can now leave comments inline. With the old system, you had to load a "comment page" that had a generic style to it. You can now leave a comment right inline with the original blog post.
Subscribe to Comments. If you leave a comment and want to know when someone else comments on the same post, you can click Subscribe by email and you will get a notification when another comment is left.
I hope you enjoy the new changes! Please leave a comment here and let me know what you think.
