I have a question that goes along with with new servers coming out? Why is it they keep talking about the mac timemachine backup as only the new systems can do this? I have one of the (I guess at this point OLD ones) and it does not have this support, but my guess is it would just be a software add-on. But I have not seen any talk about it being that.
Any thing you know about this?

@Joshua - The new machines have Time Machine backup support built in. And yes, this is through an add-in (and some Mac client software). HP will be releasing this Mac support so that you can install it on your older EX470 machine at a later date.

Donovan, thanks for the info ... but was this an auto-post? I want to order one, but HP does not show either of the new units on their website - have you actually seen them on there (and if so can you provide a link?). If I know HP, all I will get when I call o order one is the run-around... It's available on Amazon for pre-order, but that's it as far as I can tell. I want to go through HP to get the $50 discount plus some free shipping I'm supposed to have coming to me.

Oops, sorry for the mis-spelling of your name, Donavon - haven't had any coffee yet ;)

@Daver - I was expecting to wake up this morning, modify my links to all of the inline retailers and then post. Unfortunately, the only site to offer teh EX485 is Amazon.com. Even HP hasn't updates their site.

So I decided not to delay (for those folks who wanted to order from Amazon). I'll keep checking through out the day and will update the links as they come online.

As far as I can tell, HP is the only site that will honor the $50 off. But depending on the prices, it may be a better deal elsewhere anyway. We'll have to wait and see.

I wish I didn't like these server, because the more I call HP, the less I like them. Since I haven't seen these models on the HP website yet today, I called the number in the post. Scott at HP Home & Home Office Sales didn't even know they had new models coming out - I literally had to give him the url (www.hp.com/go/mediasmartserver) to show him the info/specs.

Is there an 'official' post from HP anywhere in regards to these new machines? I'm now wondering if these are ghostware...

The guy at HP asked if it's possible that these are being sold via the small office department, but since it's a *home* server, I assume not. Perhaps I should try calling HP biz anyways? Wish me luck...

I'll keep checking this post for updates!

Here's hoping...

I'm really miffed by all the "5 Jan" announcement and availazbility (not). HP, BestBuy, and others have coming soon or no link. The Newegg doesn't call them by their names and has list. Amazon has an EX485 depending how you search, but overstates list by an extra hundred dollars to show a large % savings (higher than the HP list minus coupon which may work some day.

Disappointing.

The new models are finally on the HP site at http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/can.do?landing=notebook&storeName=accessories&category=notebook_hp&subcat1=home_servers&catLevel=1

I just got off the phone with HP sales - they don't take pre-payment, rather they take your info and will call/email you when the product is available.

They had no real way of guaranteeing me that I was 'one of the first 200 consumers to order' in order to get $50 off with the coupon code - though he said he put the coupon code in the notes for my pre-order and put it into the 'tracker', whatever that is, and said I should get the $50 off.

He asked his "Product Champion" when the units would start shipping and was told that they should be available February 8th the latest. I'll get a call or an email when the unit is available so they can verify that I still want the product, and charge me accordingly at that time.

Good luck, and get on the phone if you want one!

Please post if you find a deal better than $549 +tax (assuming I get the $50 off...).
