WHS Hacks: Installing Windows Home Server on the Thecus N5200

image

The Thecus N5200 is a Linix based NAS server, but Jaymz has figured out (i.e. hacked) how to install Windows Home Server on it. Great job! The thing is a little under powered with it's 600MHz Intel Celeron, but it has 5 hot swappable SATA drives and a Gigabit network in a small little package. I a little jealous that I didn't think of this first. :)

Read the how to here.

Fin. Why not comment on what you've just read or even Digg It!

It is good to see people expanding the possible things that can be done with HomeServer. Although as stated the Thecus is grossly underpowered and still not that cheap of a device. Dollar for Dollar I think it is still cheaper to get the HP EX740. On ebay a 6tb Thecus will cost you 1200.00 and a 6tb HP will cost you 1200.00. Winner - HP

@Freddy - I completely agree that dollar for dollar, HP wins hands down. But I am intrigued with the Thecus boxes. The PRO version has a 1.5MHz processor, which should power WHS along just nicely. I'm just happy to see others migrating unique hardware over to WHS.
